1/ if you look closely enough
a pomegranate seed becomes
a ruby - if you eat it,
you are consuming wealth
and will not need
the chains of hunger
to bind you
any longer -

2/ my dog's death no
longer hangs like 
a weighted necklace of cells
around my impudent neck

instead it burns
my retinas
ever so slowly
with every fucking sunset. 
invisible, always.

3/ the search for health
for the beyond 
has proven useless. settle
for the colours. settle
for the moments between exits
on the interstate 
when your breathing stops
and the glow of millions of
signs indicate commerce 
criss-crossing along your arms,
little by little. settle for your
bones & for your inherent weakness
and you will still have a monument
to prop you up, hold you still,
run its hand along your forehead
the moment you settle into sleep.
